2024. The much-awaited launch year for the community-led Nakioke Karaoke Discos initiative for Primary and Intermediate Schools in Taranaki, Palmerston North, Whanganui Central & Feilding. Our tamariki love it!

 

Currently, there are no platforms for our tamariki to grow as performers or vocalists on a stage or with a microphone. So after throwing some idea's around in the team and refining it from there, Nakioke decided that stepping up to the task of nurturing our next generation of superstars from a young age was the only thing to do.

 

Though the odd talent quest and professional singing competitions are scattered throughout the year, having a regular forum for them to get familiar with the microphone and the stage in a supportive and healthy environment is paramount. We came up with this concept to fill the gap for our tamariki.

 

We believe this initiative will give them the confidence to get up there and give it a real go with no pressure, flying solo or with friends. It is all about opening them up to opportunities they wouldn't necessarily have had in their day-to-day lives. Now, they can see the potential superstars they could be.

 

This service is at zero cost to Schools because a community with big hearts wants to sponsor us to help provide this.

 

Our school discos will run just like the regular school discos. However, karaoke will be available at the same time. Our lovely hosts play youth-appropriate music in between singers to keep with the disco theme. 

 

Schools can charge a koha at the door and sell tickets, food, and other fundraising options to benefit their schools.
